KEN STANDRING - UPDATED - FUNERAL DETAILS

Thursday 15 August

Thursday 15 August 1pm at West Lancashire Crematorium, Pippin Street,Ormskirk. L40 7SP

The family would love everyone to join them for a celebration of Kens life at Southport and Birkdale Sports Club.

The family ask that people meet them at the Crematorium and have no desire for attendees to wear black.

No flowers, donations to be split between NW Air Ambulance and Queenscourt Hospice

With immense sadness we have learnt that Ken Standring, one of Lancashire’s oldest former players and a legend to all at Southport and Birkdale Cricket, has passed away after a long and brave fight with ill health.

Born in Clitheroe on 17 February 1935, Ken played for Lancashire between 1954 and 1962 playing 13 matches and partnering Brian Statham in opening the bowling. His first wicket was the great Len Hutton!

He went on to play cricket for Farnworth, Bingley, Bradshaw and Ribblesdale Wanderers, whilst his job as a local Government Officer took him to Southport in 1974.

He joined Southport CC, playing in the Liverpool Competition Championship winning sides of 1975 and 1979, and was given an Honorary Life Membership for his services to the Club as Chairman and President. He finished playing relatively early and turned his attention to coaching and administration, becoming Assistant Secretary to the Lancashire Cricket Board.

He was honoured by Lancashire Cricket and made a Vice-President for his work with the Lancashire Federation and promoting the game of cricket throughout Lancashire.

Ken was a hugely respected figure all over the County, the Liverpool Competition and by everyone at his beloved Southport and Birkdale.

The Liverpool Competition’s thoughts and condolences are with Graham, all the family and the Club.
