CHRISTMAS WISHES TO ALL FROM THE COMP
Date: 24th December 2024
MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
It’s been another bumper year of cricket in the Liverpool and District Cricket Competition. At 1st XI level the standard has never been higher, and special congratulations are in order to Ormskirk CC, winner of back-to-back ECB Premier League titles, and to Northern CC who won the National T20, the first time a Liverpool Competition team has ever won an ECB National trophy.
Our clubs continue to help develop young cricketers at all levels. Participation continues to grow in both boys and girls cricket and we have never had as many young cricketers playing at county level as we do today. The number of those cricketers who go on to have a professional career in the game is also growing, and we are certainly punching above our weight in this regard when compared to many other leagues with far more clubs than ours. I’m sure we will all be wishing Matthew Hurst well in the Big Bash representing Perth Scorchers!!
Women’s cricket is also thriving with numbers increasing year on year. There is increasing demand from new clubs to enter our weekend leagues. Finding venues to play at can be challenging but the demand is there. It is to The Comp’s enormous credit that we are in the process of helping the Southport League to gradually integrate with our own over the next few years. They have been struggling to administer their league and without the tireless work of our own Management Committee they may not have been able to carry on. It is a brilliant example of how The Comp is working to help preserve and grow the game locally, and to help our neighbours in difficulty.
It is to those members of the Management Committee I offer my closing remarks: These are truly wonderful people who I see doing huge amounts of work for the benefit of everyone who plays our great game. We are always looking for more people to come on board and help with however much or little you can. The more people who are involved, the less there is for others to do, and the more efficiently everything runs, the more enjoyable it is for all. My huge thanks and appreciation to Eddie and all the Committee for the work they do on everyone’s behalf. If you think you might be able to help, please do have a word with Eddie. The Comp has never been in better standing both locally and across the country. May I wish you all a happy and peaceful Christmas and a wonderful enjoyable season in 2025.
