THE 2ND XI SEASON SO FAR

Date: 5th June 2015

Bootle and Wallasey lead the way

2nd XI Round Up        (up to the 31st May)

The new season is starting to settle down as we enter the month of June. The current league leaders in the 2nd XI competition are Bootle (Premier league), Liverpool in Division One and Division Two is led by Spring View. In each division, the leaders are being closely challenged and no team can relax.

Bootle and Wallasey continue to match each other's results with both teams recording five wins out of the five games played, with Bootle having a narrow lead from their bonus points attained. Andy Gill bettered his opening day performance with an eight wicket haul (for just 12 runs) in the victory in Round 4 against Northern. Wallasey's Steven Williams scored 100 in the win over Fleetwood H and team mate Steven Potter has also enjoyed a successful start to the new campaign. Louis Botes and Sefton's David Hort both reached three figures and Fleetwood and Orrell are both looking to record their first wins.

Rainford suffered a bad bank holiday weekend losing both fixtures which allowed Liverpool (who have won five successive games) to leapfrog them at the head of the table. Colwyn Bay's opening pair of Wallace (108 no) and Green (116 no) put on an unbeaten double hundred stand (247 in 45 overs) against Rainford but the then leaders showed their mettle by successfully chasing down this imposing total helped by Dalrymple's own century (106 no) to win by 5 wickets. On the same day Hargreaves (102) and Atkinson featured in another huge stand (192 for the second wicket) as they beat Caldy. Caldy won the bottom of the table clash to leave Colwyn Bay looking upwards. Other recent centurians include Waywell, Aspey, Whiston and Green. Phil Murgatroyd enjoys facing his previous team as he took his total to 13 wickets in the two games against St Helens Town after an eight wicket which was matched by Gaskell spell (8/16) in the same game.

Spring View's bowling is their strength as they have yet to allow any opponents to reach three figures in Division Two this year as they head the table, although Heyes 103 and Ashford (84) in a 170 unbeaten stand showed that they can bat too . Closely behind are Northop Hall whose opener Jamie Hodgson is closing on 250 runs already (a total that could have been higher but for Skelmersdale conceding the season's first 2nd XI game). Hightown St Marys still await their first victory as do Prestatyn.
