Clubs in Covid - SOUTHPORT and BIRKDALE

Projects and events with plenty of involvement at Trafalgar Road.

Well, what an incredible past 12 months! No one could have predicted the global pandemic and the devastation and disruption to all our lives.

Despite the challenges, we are extremely pleased that we were able to get around eight weeks competitive cricket in August and September, whilst at the same time showing respect, and playing our part in the community against this difficult backdrop. Weekly phone calls to vulnerable members, to ensure that they were in good spirits and help with practical things like shopping, made us all feel very proud of the Club.

No sooner had the season finished that the Leadership Team kicked in the Winter programmme with a huge focus and attention across all the playing related assets with some excellent progress. The outfield and square have benefitted from the investment, talents and hard work of the ground team and the Indoor School has caught the imagination of all the local clubs and coaching academies and it’s been a joy to watch the practicing of so many boys girls ladies and men’s cricketers and during restrictions and lockdowns this has made a particular difference. The Indoor School project is close to raising £8,500 and all of this will be invested in new netting artificial matting, several bowling machines and all the training aids which have been supplied by our kit partner Gray Nicholls. There is still time for you give a small donation to https://www.spacehive.com/all-year-round-indoor-school-facilities

We have also been very busy on the commercial side including our new sponsors Chapelhouse Motor Group and our playing partner line up not only includes Gray Nicholls but also Opening Up, The Fitness Lab and The Rehab Lab as part of our new exciting development plan. Also key to the plan is the Fund raising which as we all know is critical to our clubs wellbeing and Chris Firth and the team have an exciting line up already planned for the 2021 season with a whole stream of events from Quizzes, Ladies Day, Fab Fours, Corporate Match days and the 2021 CricFest which will take place on the Bank Holiday weekend at the end of August involving top class Cricket, Women’s and Junior Tournaments, Music, Entertainment and a full on Beer Festival!

Equally busy on the field we are delighted to announce that Chris Cunningham Tom Baybutt and David Salt will be captaining the men’s sides and we are also thrilled that Titia Dorgeat will be leading our Ladies Team and the development on and off the field. We look forward to hosting another Comp tournament in 2021.

On the junior side we are expecting a hugely busy programme from the Dynamo’s and All Stars all the way through to the under 17/18 teams. As part of our new coaching strategy we have signed new partnership deals with Simon Sutcliffe at Cricket First and the team from Academy North and we are all very excited about that!

We are also able to welcome some extremely talented individuals to the Club – David Snellgrove, JJ Fielding, Bobby Wincer, Basil Sultan and Jack Stanley – we wish you every success at Trafalgar Rd and hope you enjoy yourselves at this special club.

Finally a huge thanks to the Competition and especially the Umpires after a difficult 2020 and to all the Clubs we wish you a safe peaceful and happy Christmas and New Year.

Let’s get it on!
