JAMIE BOWMAN SIGNS OFF

Comp cricket writer moves on

After five years reporting and writing about the Liverpool and District Cricket Competition for the Daily Post and Liverpool Echo, I'm afraid the time has come to "have a blow" and move on. With two young kids in tow it has become increasingly difficult to juggle all my various commitments and after some soul-searching I have decided to move on from working full time at the newspaper and go freelance.

Writing about the local cricket scene has been a dream come true for someone who loved playing in the Liverpool Competition. Every week I've had the opportunity to throw a spotlight on the many goings on across the league both on and off the field. So many dedicated players and volunteers do so much to promote our game and keep these clubs going - I hope in someway I've helped promote this work to a wider audience.

On a personal level I'd lack to thank the many 1st XI skippers who've taken the time to talk to me over the years as well as the many players who offer feedback (good and bad!) on Twitter etc. It's been a pleasure getting to know so many of you. A huge thanks also to the LDCC committee and especially John Williams who has always been a huge help. I'd also like to thank my friends at the Merseyside Cricket Society who have always welcomed me to their meetings and events.

I will continue to write as much as I can about local cricket and Lancashire as I pursue further writing opportunities with various national publications so please feel free to contact me about anything happening at your club. Follow me on Twitter @jamiebowman77

Finally I'd like to thank Paul Edwards - a brilliant writer who has been a constant mine of information and advice as well as friendship. Paul has been writing about the Competition in his own inimitable style long before I was and his dedication to the cause is second to none - I'm sure his writing will continue to grace the Echo's pages for many years to come.

Hopefully I'll cross bats with some of you on the pitch in future or more likely the bar afterwards.

Yours in cricket
Jamie Bowman.
