New skipper pleased with win over Spring View
New Burscough skipper Lee Berrie is hoping that his team can build on their first league win of the season against Spring View and mount a challenge for one of the promotion places from the Second Division of the Liverpool Competition.
The School Lane side defended a total of just 118 against the Bolton Association champions and 24-year-old Berrie believes it was just the type of victory his team needed.
"We showed a lot of character to win that game especially after being bowled out for such a low total," he said. "Realistically you might say that we have no chance of being promoted but with the team we have we should be up there."
Berrie succeeded Adam Waterhouse just a couple of weeks ago and he regards dealing with the disappointment of failing to go up last summer as part of the challenge of captaincy.
"It was a blow not to finish in the top two last year but we have to use that as a spur for this summer now," he said. "Adam Waterhouse, whom I succeeded, was a very good captain, and given the availability issues, he did a great job.
"Since taking on the job myself I've spoken to all the players and stressed the importance of training."
