Northern pip Bootle in thriller; Rainhill march on; Sefton Park have big win.
PREMIER DIVISION
Northern go top after a thrilling five wicket win at Wadham Road, chasing down the home side’s total with five balls to spare, Steven Lucas and Mark Walling hitting half centuries. 113 from Alex Davies helped Lytham to 271-5 declared before everyone chipped in as Leigh were dismissed for 107.Chris Tonge put in a man-of-the-match performance with 93 and 5 for 28 as Maghull kept up their good start with a 28 run win over Southport and Birkdale for whom Scott Lees took 6 for 43. Ormskirk recorded a five wicket win over Wallasey with Martyn Farrell helping to dismiss the Wirral outfit for 177 and Andrew Baybutt leading the Ormskirk reply with 75. Fleetwood Hesketh and New Brighton fought out a stalemate after Andrew Watts had made 102 in Fleetwood’s total of 247 for 5. New Brighton with John While hitting 71 closed on 161 for 7. Hightown and Highfield enjoyed a high scoring draw with the Highfield last pair just hanging on.
FIRST DIVISION
Rainhill secured an eight wicket win at Formby to maintain their challenge just one place behind Birkenhead Park who drew with Ainsdale, a game which saw 50’s from Craig Reid, Daniel Adkins and Wasim Jaffer. Rainford finally got off the mark with a six wicket win over Wigan, successfully chasing Wigan’s total of 239 all out, Gareth Bradley (60) Aaron Redmond (74). Graeme Green (73), Joe Noctor (67) and Daron Cruickshank (62 not out) saw Rainford home. Northop Hall were denied by Liverpool’s last pair after declaring on 236 for 8, Dave Kennedy scoring 78. Despite Danny Nolan’s 6 for 46, 76 from Matthew Hints helped Liverpool finish on 184 for 9. Newton Le Willows edged home against Orrell by 18 runs with 55 from Ian Walkden and 5 for 61 from Danny Barlow and Colwyn Bay Bay hung on for a draw at Parkfield Liscard.
SECOND DIVISION
Sefton Park stay top after a big win at home to Prestatyn. Richie Forsyth (86) and John Jackson (64) enabled a declaration on 268 and Peter Kelly’s 5 for 47 did the damage. Chris Andrews (5 for 33) bowled Burscough to a 37 run win over Spring View and Ian Carroll’s 131 not out launched Old Xavarians to a five wicket win at Caldy. St Helens Town had an 83 run win over Alder and Wavertree beat Sutton by eight wickets, Matt Nation proving difficult to handle with 7 for 41. Skelmersdale won a tense affair at Birkenhead St Mary’s with Andrew Griffiths taking six wickets.
