BRIAN FITTON

Date: 20th July 2016

Maghull former Skipper Chairman and President passes away.

Maghull CC’s former 1st Team Captain, Chairman and President, Brian Fitton, passed away on 14th July after a short illness. The club’s sympathies lie with his wife Marjorie, his son Martin (who followed his father as 1st Team Captain), daughter Gillian together with all his grandchildren.

Brian originally played when the club were only involved in friendly cricket before Maghull, along with other clubs, formed the Merseyside Cricket Association. In 1979 they joined the Southport and District League where Brian skippered the club in the first match at Meols Park versus YMCA 2nd XI. Maghull had won the 3rd division before the end of July, finished second the following year and in 1981 were promoted to the 1st division where they remained until 1999 when they joined the Liverpool Competition.

In his younger days Brian was a keen lacrosse player and was a top order batsmen as well as an athletic fielder. On retiring from cricket he took up golf, joining Mossock Hall where he became club captain.

He was a keen quizzer and his team appeared on 'Eggheads' where they narrowly lost. Having been Head of History at the Liverpool Collegiate he naturally took the history questions and took part in a lengthy tie break which was too long to show in full in the edited programme!

More recently he was able to watch his son and grandson play together in the same Maghull team. Brian will be sadly missed by everyone at the club.

The funeral is on Tuesday 26 July 1.30 at St Andrew’s Church Maghull followed by Burscough Crematorium and Maghull Town Hall.
