TREMENDOUS START TO OUR WOMENS and GIRLS TOURNAMENT

Date: 14th March 2019

Over 60 players from 7 clubs in 10 teams enjoy the day

Last Sunday saw the first ever Liverpool Competition Women’s and Girls Tournament. 10 teams from 7 clubs took part in the League format competition at Toxteth Firefit Centre, with the second day to follow on 24 March.

After Day 1, Colwyn Bay head the Girls Group with Old Xaverians just behind with Wavertree and Hightown St Mary’s chasing them. It’s tight at the top of the women’s section with Old Xaverians and Wavertree sharing the top spot with Firwood Bootle, Colwyn Bay, Liverpool and Southport and Birkdale in the pack behind.

The performance of the day came from 15 year old Caitlin Swift, playing for Old Xaverians Women’s team, hitting 5 sixes in the final two overs to win the game for her team against Southport and Birkdale.

Paul Bate, the League’s Women’s and Girls Officer, reports that the games were extremely competitive and were played in a great atmosphere. “The day went really well” he said “and everyone really enjoyed the experience”. He praised the three umpires, Kevin Boyle, Norman Edwards and Suresh Patel for their professionalism and help, which helped to make the day successful.
