FORMBY 2's in CHRYSALIS TRIUMPH

24 run win over Rainford in 2nd X1 T20 Final - Full Report

Congratulations to Formby 2's on their win.

Rainford 129-8 (20) Formby 153-8 (20) Dr Jude 62 Luke Jones 39 Ehren Agarwal 5-22

Formby became the second winners of the 2nd XI T20 Chrysalis Cup competition with a 24 run victory over hosts Rainford.

Both teams arrived at Church Road in time for a 5.45 pm start (the early start proving to be a correct call as the light was fading quickly as the teams came off at the conclusion of the game). The game having been rescheduled after the weather thwarted attempts to complete to a satisfactory conclusion on the original Finals day.

Winning the toss proved crucial and Formby called correctly and chose to bat. Captain Jude Madanaarachchi finding the fine leg boundary several times on his way to an excellent 62 as Formby reached 103 for 1 after 13 overs aided by a fine 39 from Luke Jones. Ehren Agarwal produced a wonderful spell of 5 for 22 as he single handedly brought Rainford back into contention. Formby finishing on a challenging 153 for 8 off their allotted 20 overs.

After Ollie Lawrenson had hit a brisk 26, veteran Tony Rogan with 4 for 12 strangled Rainford's reply and they were always up against it as the dew slowed down the outfield and the light started to fade. The last five overs brought 44 runs but Formby were worthy winners watched by a good crowd including several successful members of the Competition's U21 side who had triumphed earlier in the day against the Northern LeagueU21

Man of the match was given to Dr Jude for his 62 which formed the backbone of the Formby winning total.

Thanks to Ian Harrison for his efforts in preparing the ground to a high standard after the overnight rain and to Rainford CC for hosting both this and the original Finals Day
