….for the rest of the season

Firwood Bootle have signed Lancashire’s Luke Procter for the remainder of the season. The all-rounder will play for the Wadham Road club in both league and cup games whenever county calls permit him to do so.

Bootle skipper Craig Prince admits the signing of Procter was prompted by recent losses in both the Lancashire Cup and the Royal London Club Championship. Heavy defeats to Ramsbottom and Wolverhampton, added to poor Premier League performances against Lytham and New Brighton, led to Prince making contact with the player and the deal was agreed on Tuesday evening.

“I was driving back from our game at Wolverhampton on Sunday when I decided that we needed to do something to strengthen the batting,” said Prince. “We’d just lost  by six wickets having gone from 48-1 to 72 all out and I was very disappointed by that, but the batting has been letting us down since the Lytham game three weeks ago. So Luke has agreed to play in all league games and cup matches whenever possible, always subject to his Lancashire commitments. He’ll play for us against Northern on Saturday.“

Bootle are currently third in the Premier League table but trail leaders Ormskirk by 57 points. However, they retain hopes of cup success in both the Ray Digman and Liverpool Echo knockouts.

“We’ve just got to try and win every game we play in and hope Ormskirk slip up,” said Prince. “We were neck and neck until the week after we played them at Brook Lane and then we were blitzed by Lytham and lost to New Brighton. Since then, though, we’ve picked up maximum points and we still have two cups to play for.”
