It is with great sadness that we have received news that Ronnie Cockbain has passed away this weekend after a short illness.
Ronnie played his 1st match for Bootle in 1951 and, National Service apart, stayed at Wadham Road until 1962.
He was working as an accountant for Cammell Lairds and left Bootle to play for them. He remained there until 1968 returning to Bootle for the 1969 season.
Ronnie was an aggressive right hand bat and a quick seam bowler an excellent slip fielder and a more than competent wicket keeper. He played 339 Competition 1st eleven matches for Bootle scoring 8650 runs and taking 369 wickets He captained Bootle in the 1971 and 72 seasons. He played for the first Xl until 1980 and then had a few years in the 2nd team.
Ron was a hard opponent on the field but once the game had finished a very generous host.
The funeral is to be held at Landican, Arrowe Park, Wirral at 3pm on Monday 7th November
