WEEK 12 REVIEW. ORMSKIRK beat WOLVERHAMPTON in National; COLWYN BAY lose in Welsh Cup; FORMBY beat BOOTLE in Digman.

Date: 10th July 2016

Rep team lose to Pennine.

As forecast, rain was the overall winner in Week 12 although in the PREMIER DIVISION, Lytham and Bootle recorded wins to boost their campaigns at the expense of Leigh, who nevertheless remain top and Birkenhead Park who remain at the bottom.

Toby Lester (5-28) and Taylor Cornall (63) starred for Lytham in their six wicket win over Leigh and Greg Butterworth and Chris Cunningham took four wickets apiece as Bootle won by four wickets at Birkenhead Park. The games at Northern, Rainhill and Wallasey were all abandoned when in the second innings whilst Rainford v New Brighton did not start.

It was a good day in Wales, in more ways than one, for Wigan and Fleetwood Hesketh as they both returned with valuable wins in DIVISION 1. Aaron Redmond hit 107 not out as Wigan chased down Prestatyn’s 173 to win by seven wickets and Neil Rimmer led the way with 72 not out as Fleetwood Hesketh won by five wickets at Northop Hall. Danny Murphy had earlier claimed 5-19 for the visitors. Leaders Burscough’s game against Newton Le Willows fell victim to the weather just as the second half was getting underway and the Sefton Park/Ainsdale clash was halted with both sides in with a shout. The games at Highfield and Orrell were abandoned without a ball being bowled.

The only game started in DIVISION 2 saw Hightown St Mary’s earn a valuable win at Alder where Tatenda Taibu scored 55 not out as Mary’s were bowled out for 110.  Jan Gadzina was then in fine form taking 6-467 as the hosts were bowled out for 105.
