WEEK 8 RESULTS. TOP TWO IN PREMIER BOTH WIN as CRICKET BEATS THE WEATHER
Date: 12th June 2016
S&B take advantage in Division 1 whilst Skelmersdale win thriller in Division 2
The top two, Northern and Leigh both won on a day when localised heavy rainfall threatened to disrupt the week 8 match programme. But in the PREMIER DIVISION, at least, cricket was the winner. Northern triumphed over Lytham by 43 runs whilst Leigh enjoyed a sizeable victory at Birkenhead Park. Bootle won a terrific tussle against Rainford, recovering from 11 for 5 to post 197 and winning by 19 runs. Formby won at Colwyn Bay by 44 runs, and Rainhill beat Wallasey by 4 runs in the division’s closest encounter. The rain did intervene at Ormskirk where the game was prematurely ended with the hosts on 123 for 7 after New Brighton had scored 241 for 9.
Southport and Birkdale stole a march on the rest in Division 1 with a five wicket win over Northop Hall at Trafalgar Rd where there wasn’t a drop of rain in sight. Maghull and Wigan fought out a draw at Old Hall Field whilst the four other matches were cancelled.
Skelmersdale have extended their lead at the top of DIVISION 2 after a nail-biting one wicket win at Old Xaverians. Parkfield Liscard won heavily at Caldy whilst Wavertree and Alder battled all afternoon for a draw. St Helens Town and Liverpool saw just 4 overs of action before the weather took a hand and the games at Sutton and Spring View were cancelled.
