SHOCKS AND TONS OF RUNS AS RAINFORD, RAINHILL AND WALLASEY START WITH WINS

Bootle and Northern also off the mark

What an opening day!

Four centurions in the Premier Division and a few shocks as the Liverpool Competition began the 2016 league season. Outstanding wins for Rainford at New Brighton where Andrew Clarke hit 100 not out for the Champions before Joe Noctor guided Rainford to victory with 132. Wallasey surprised Ormskirk to win with Thomas Russ hitting 111 after Michael Jones had scored 125 not out for the home side and Rainhill passed Formby’s total led by David Atkinson’s 81 not out.

Meanwhile, Bootle, with skipper Craig Prince in form with 98, beat Birkenhead Park and Northern saw off Colwyn Bay with Justin Snow top scoring with 76. Leigh and Lytham fought out a draw.

In Division 1 there were wins for Highfield, Burscough, Northop Hall, Southport and Birkdale, and Wigan with Ainsdale and Sefton Park drawing.

Division 2 saw wins for Alder. Old Xaverians, Parkfield Liscard, Liverpool and St Helens Town with Caldy and Wavertree battling for a draw.
