Joins Chris Rimmer in a Comp-County double.

Not content with dispatching many of its young players to further their cricketing education in the MI Dental Liverpool Competition, Lancashire has now opted to take both of its scorers from the ranks of our league.

Following the appointment of Chris Rimmer to the first team post earlier this month, the former first-class umpire and Competition secretary, Mike Dixon, has been asked to take on the job of Lancashire’s second-team scorer for the 2016 season.

It was an invitation which an “absolutely delighted” Dixon had little hesitation in accepting.

Indeed, Lancashire’s new notcher can now claim to have served the game with distinction in two roles. Following a 31-year career as an umpire, during which he officiated at a Minor Counties final at Lord’s and also stood in two matches of the 2001 Australians’ tour, Dixon’s new job comes at the end of an eight-year period during which he has scored for Fleetwood Hesketh and Maghull.

And in addition to scoring for the county’s second team this summer, Dixon will be taking over from Rimmer as Ormskirk’s scorer. There is also the intriguing prospect of the pair working together in July when Pakistan take on England in the second Test of a four-match series at Old Trafford. The host county normally provides the two scorers for these games but it is probably rare for them to come from the same league.

Everyone in the MI Dental Liverpool Competition will wish Chris and Mike all the best in their new roles this summer.
