ISSY COMING TO FLEETWOOD HESKETH? YES HE IS.

Sykes will continue to strengthen his squad.

Training Strategies sponsored Fleetwood Hesketh CC are delighted to announce the signing of all rounder Isuru Perera (aka Issy) as their overseas amateur for the 2016 Liverpool & District Cricket Competition season.

Issy is an experienced 31 year old left handed top order batsman and right arm leg spin bowler and a qualified coach who was born in Sri Lanka and represented his country at U15, U19 and U23 levels, before moving to the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Australia seven years ago, where he now represents Noble Park CC in Victorian Sub District Cricket.

Last season was his most successful so far in Australia as he collected the coveted Van Holten Medal as the league’s player of the year, scoring 709 runs at an average of 59.08 and taking 26 wickets in 14 first grade matches, his consistent all round performances for Noble Park have seen him picked in the league’s team of the season for the past four years.

Club Captain Derek Sykes is delighted to have signed a player of Issy’s pedigree, his experience on the pitch and coaching abilities off it will be a huge benefit to all age groups at the club and his early signature now allows the skipper more time to concentrate on trying to bring in a few more players from closer to home to bolster the club’s squad before the season starts next April.

Issy replaces Tasmanian Harry Nichols, who after considering his options has decided not to return to Sea Cop in 2016, the club would like to thank Harry for his efforts both on and off the field of play last summer and wish him well for a bright future in the game.

The club would also like to thank a couple of other players for their efforts for the club over the past few seasons, Craig Todd has returned to his former club Southport & Birkdale where he is taking over as Second XI Captain, whilst opening bowler Matt Collins has unfortunately moved back to the Rochdale area over the winter and will therefore be playing his cricket closer to home next season.
