ORMSKIRK 2's WIN CHESTER CUP day after NEW BRIGHTON RECEIVE PREMIER DIVISION TROPHY

Leigh and S+B win to set up three-way fight for survival

Ormskirk 2nd X1 won the Chester Cup on Sunday beating Bootle 2nds by 54 runs.

Ormskirk 244 for 5 (45) Bootle 190 all out

James Illingworth (Ormskirk) Manof the Match for his 88 not out.

New Brighton received the ECB Premier Division John Tristram Trophy prior to their game against Formby at Rake Lane. With their junior section achieving great success and the U16 and U21 sides in the L&DCC KO Finals, this has been a massively successful year for the club. It was fitting then that the senior’s success was shared by junior members and officials from the club – as our picture shows.

When play got underway New Brighton, roared on by an enthusiastic support, beat Formby by 10 runs to spark an evening of celebration.

Elsewhere in the Premier Division Highfield are now relegated after their defeat by Southport and Birkdale who jump above Wallasey who lost at Leigh. Next weekend the calculators will be out as any one of these three teams could go down.

The battle for the second promotion slot from Division 1 now goes to the last day after Maghull’s win at home to already relegated Liverpool and with Rainford unluckily on the receiving end of an abandoned fixture at Wigan. At the other end of the table St Helens Town’s loss at Northop Hall consigns them to Division 2 next season.

In Division 2 Orrell's win at Birkenhead St Mary's leaves them 20 points clear of Spring View who lost a high scoring encounter against Champions Burscough.
