Around 750 teams set out in pursuit of the ultimate prize in this year's NatWest Club T20 competition but only one was left standing on Tuesday night at the SSE Swalec in Cardiff.

West London club Ealing gave an impressive display en route to an eight-wicket win over Devon side Exmouth and a second national title in five years.

Former Middlesex player Chris Peploe played a key role in his team's triumph, taking two wickets and posting a dominant 70 not out.

Describing his feelings after wicketkeeper Robbie White hit the winning runs, Peploe said: “Elation, excitement and great satisfaction.

“The boys have been so excited to come here – we've obviously watched the England boys yesterday so it was great motivation. It raises everybody’s spirits and everyone wants to come here and perform at their best.”

Ealing captain Huw Jones added: “It was a fantastic performance all day. We played superb cricket and to win it by eight wickets chasing down 170-odd was a great effort.

“It's only the second national competition our club has won so it’s a really special thing for the club, and all the spectators you saw today really enjoyed it so that’s a fantastic effort.”

Exmouth captain Gary Chappell was magnanimous in defeat: “It’s obviously disappointing to come this far and lose but at the same time we’re immensely proud of getting to the final and winning 10 games of T20 cricket this year.

“I thought as soon as we got past 170 it was our game to lose but fair play to them, they won the game in the first five/six overs and completely destroyed us.”
