Promising youngster makes Premier move to Moor Park

Northern have beaten off a host of other clubs in the Med Imaging Liverpool Competition to sign the highly-rated slow left-armer John Dotters from Rainford.

Dotters told Rainford chairman John Williams on Wednesday afternoon that he would be leaving the First Division club and he has departed on excellent terms.

For his part, Moor Park skipper James Cole is understandably excited to have recruited one of the most promising spinners in the county.

“John has done really well over the last couple of years and he now wants to take his cricket to the next level,” said Cole. “We see him as one of the best young cricketers around and he is very highly thought of in the Comp.

“He’s also a more than useful bat and we believe that aspect of his game will only improve. He’ll add a lot to us on the pitch and we are really looking forward to working with him. He’s got ambitions to play professional cricket and we want to help him achieve those.”

Northern’s satisfaction is easy to understand. Dotters, who will celebrate his 18th birthday at the end of this month, was the leading wicket-taker in Division One, dismissing 67 batsmen at an average of 11.5., but amid his pleasure at joining one of the Liverpool Competition’s powerhouses, he was also concerned to pay tribute to his two previous clubs.

“I want to thank Sutton and Rainford for developing me as a cricketer,” he said. “They’ve really helped me, but I just thought the move to Northern would offer me an opportunity to play on big stages like the National Knockout. It was a chance I couldn’t turn down.”

Rainford clearly accepted Dotters’ reasons for ending his three-year stay at the club. “John is a young cricketer who has got better every year,” said chairman John Williams. “We all understand that if he wants to progress he needs to be playing Premier League cricket and he leaves the club with our best wishes.”
