MAKING IT HAPPEN IN SIERRA LEONE

Lancashire coaching couple ready to help

On 22 February, Mark Aspin, coaching for the second year on our Player Development Programme, will travel to Sierra Leone to undertake work as part of the Charity “Making it happen in Sierra Leone”.

Mark, an ECB Level 3 Coach and an ECB Tutor will be accompanied by his wife Naomi, an ECB Level 2 coach and Secretary of the Lancashire Coaches Association. The pair will coach local men, women, boys and girls with Mark spending some time working with the Sierra Leone National squad.

Mark, who visited Sierra Leone in February 2012 said “My last visit was a real eye opener. It is amazing how these people cope everyday with the smallest amounts of food and money, yet still smile. They are appreciative of the time you spend with them and are always so polite and well mannered. Many live without sanitation and have few possessions. If you give them a pair of trainers they will split them in two so that they can have one each. It is really humbling to see”.

Mark and Naomi hope that their two week trip will help with both cricket and social skills during their stay.

As can be imagined, cricket equipment is in very short supply and Mark and Naomi are taking as much as they can with them. If you can help by digging out no longer used bats, balls, pads, helmets, trainers, shirts, anything cricket related (even marker cones) they would be delighted to hear from you and will arrange collection.

Please contact Mark on 07931246538 or email mark.aspin1@btinternet.com
